Our take, in one paragraph

Profound is a relatively new entrant in this space, founded in 2024. Pricing starts at $99/mo across 3 tiers. Named customers include Ramp, Zapier, Alchemy and 13 more. Real-user reviews flag specific, recurring shortcomings; we'd read those before committing.

In their own words: Profound is the full-stack AI visibility marketing platform that helps enterprise brands monitor, optimize, and measure how they appear across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and eight other AI answer engines.

Who Profound is for, and who it isn't

Best for
  • Mid-market teams. Entry at $99/mo lands in the typical mid-market SaaS range, neither bargain nor enterprise.
  • In-house growth teams. If you already have a content team and just need a measurement layer showing where you appear in AI answers, this is the layer.
  • Reference-driven buyers. 16 named customers means you can find a peer who's used it, which matters in enterprise procurement.
Not for
  • Teams that need someone to act on the data. It measures, it doesn't act. You still need a writer, an editor, and a backlink hunter on the back end.

What real users say

Distilled from G2, Capterra, SourceForge, Reddit, and case-study reviews. Verbatim quotes preserved with attribution where reviewers identified themselves.

What people praise

Intuitive, polished UI that makes complex AI visibility data easy to read and report on

Unique Prompt Volumes dataset showing real AI search demand that no competitor offers

Fast and thorough onboarding with highly responsive customer success team

Profound isn't just giving us a dashboard to monitor, we're getting strategic counsel.

Where it falls short

Pricing is steep relative to what lower tiers unlock, with a large jump between Growth and Enterprise

Profound has a limited availability of prompts for the price...Profound's cost per prompt is higher than average.

No free trial or self-serve signup - every plan requires a sales conversation first

Profound has no free trial, no free tier, and no self-serve signup, every plan including Lite is sales-led.

Dashboard can be confusing - visibility data does not clearly tell you what to do next

How Profound actually works

The methodology behind the product, in plain English. Helpful if you're comparing technical approaches.

Data source
Profound re-runs every tracked prompt daily against each covered AI engine by querying the consumer-facing browser interface directly (not the API), then stores each answer as a complete snapshot. The Prompt Volumes dataset is built from double-opt-in consumer panels of hundreds of millions of anonymised prompts per month, modelled to correct for demographic and geographic bias. The Profound Index draws on a public dataset of 400M+ real user conversations and the broader Conversation Explorer dataset has reached 1.5B+ anonymized conversations.
Update frequency
Daily refresh of every tracked prompt across all covered engines. Prompt Volumes panel data is weekly. Profound Index updated weekly across covered industries.
Scope and limits
Covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, Meta AI, DeepSeek, and Google AI Mode. Profound Index live for U.S. ChatGPT across Aerospace, Auto Parts, Credit Cards, Fast Food, Furniture, Health Insurance, IT Consulting, Packaging, Pharmaceutical, Renewable Energy, Semiconductor, and Streaming with more industries coming. Regional coverage spans US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Spain, South Korea, Italy, Brazil, Hong Kong and 150+ regions for Answer Engine tracking.
Technical approach
Direct browser-based monitoring rather than API monitoring, on the explicit thesis that customers should see what real consumers see. Sentiment analysis, share of voice, citation URL tracking, snippet preview, and content gap analysis are all supported. Profound Agents include drag-and-drop builder, pre-built templates (Content Refresh, AEO FAQ Generation, Competitive Research, Net-New Content), brand kit injection, knowledge base retrieval, and CMS publishing to WordPress, Sanity, Contentful. Profound Sheets exposes a spreadsheet-style interface where every row is its own Agent run with its own context.

Our recommendation: GrowthManager.ai

Profound is a great tool if you have an in-house team to act on the data. GrowthManager.ai gives you the same tracking and acts on it. We write 100 articles per month, configure the schema and llms.txt, build backlinks, and seed Reddit and Quora. $999/mo, managed end-to-end.

Frequently asked questions

What does Profound do?

Profound is the full-stack AI visibility marketing platform that helps enterprise brands monitor, optimize, and measure how they appear across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and eight other AI answer engines. Pricing starts at $99/mo.

How much does Profound cost?

Profound starts at $99/mo and runs across 3 tiers. For comparison, GrowthManager.ai is $999/mo for the full managed program (tracking + content + infrastructure + distribution), so if you'd otherwise pay Profound and hire an agency to act on the data, we're usually cheaper end-to-end.

What's the best alternative to Profound?

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you need pure tracking, Profound and AthenaHQ are the most-established direct alternatives. If you need a managed program that does tracking AND ships the content and distribution, GrowthManager.ai is the editorial pick on this site (and yes, we publish this review).

Is Profound worth it?

For teams that already have in-house content production and just need a measurement layer, Profound can be worth it. The shortcoming most users mention is that Profound tells you what's wrong without fixing it; you still need a team or an agency to act on the recommendations. GrowthManager.ai bundles the measurement and the team at $999/mo, which usually beats stacking Profound plus an agency.

Does Profound do content creation, infrastructure, and distribution?

No. Profound is a measurement and reporting tool. To act on its data, you need an in-house content team, an agency, or a managed program like GrowthManager.ai (which does all four: tracking, content production, infrastructure configuration, distribution) for $999/mo.
